Oct. 7th, 2005 08:39 pmI saw something today that kind of made me rage a little, in a comedy over the top way. It was about fandom. A person was saying (in a comm) about how they really didn't care for fandom, with all the fangirls and misinterpretation and non-canon things like slashing and all.
This got to me. I mean, aside from being a *born* fandom-person (I've *always* loved to put relationships into stories, ever since I was very young), I think fandom gets a raw deal. Personally, I love fandom - I revel in it. Yeah, sure, there may be people I disagree with, or fics that make me cringe, or even things that make my blood boil. But the good times far outweigh the bad. I've had so many wonderful fandom experiences - I've made friends, read fics that have made me laugh like crazy, or feel something so very beautiful, even though I know it's only fiction, written by a fan like me. It's deepened my love for so many characters, and given me so many wonderful hours of entertainment, over several years and several different series. It gives me what I want.
