I know I have lots of Uchi supporters on my friends list - or rather, people who would like to see Uchi come back to K8. I draw this distinction, because while I personally have no problem with Uchi, wish him all the best for his career and really enjoyed Osen, I hope it won't come as a surprise to anyone when I say that I don't want him to come back to Kanjani8. I've seen a bit of a flurry of talk about him, what with his new drama and other speculation, so I feel like now I want to tell it from the point of view of not a hater, but someone who also has feelings and thoughts, and reasons why I have them.
I got into K8 in 2007, when Uchi had already been gone for a year and a half. I didn't know what they were like with him there. When I saw them at Tokyo Dome in 2007 and Uchi came out at the end, I didn't know what to feel. For a while I genuinely thought that was it, he was going to be back in the band - and truth be told, that thought made me uneasy. They wouldn't be the K8 I loved if they had what was, from my point of view, an extra member! I felt like a SuJu fan every time the bosses decide to swell their ranks again. I felt like if he was back, it would mess up the whole fan life I had built up, and that thought was not a happy one.
And you know what, I think these feelings are just as valid as anyone's who wants him to come back. (I'm even leaving aside the whole separate issue of those fans who used to jump on ANYTHING K8 did with cries of "But what about Uchi???" because those people are just not giving K8 credit for any of the hard work they've put in over the past few years. And I'm not touching the issue of how likely it actually is that he will come back, because this isn't about that.) But I don't think it's too much to ask for my feelings to be respected just as much as Uchi supporters want theirs to be. I know wanting Uchi back is seen as the 'right' way to think by a lot of people, for various reasons, but seriously, if Uchi did come back I don't know if I would be a K8 fan in the same way anymore. The feeling is less strong than it was in 2007, but still. I'm sure no-one wants to drive other fans out, so I just wanted to state the case that actually, just because I don't want Uchi back does not make me a hater, and I really don't think it's something to feel bad for.
In summary: Uchi is all well and good but... I just want him to stay over there. XD
