Warnings: Er, none!
Notes: I started this a few days back, but have only poked it off and on. Finally got it finished instead of working today. >.< It's for the challenge Sharon gave me, for my Valentine's drabbles. ^_~ Also, the title is crud. But that's nothing new. ^^'
Ordinary Day
“So... it's just an ordinary day, then?”
“Well yes. People still have to go to work, or school, or whatever, but it's a day when girls show their feelings to the boy the like.”
“How do they do that?”
“Well, they usually give them chocolate.”
“...That doesn't sound like a lot of thought goes into it.”
“Er – no, but it's something everyone likes!”
“Trivial and impersonal.”
Yuuri sighed. He might've known that trying to explain Valentine's Day to Wolfram would lead to a situation like this. “It's seen as romantic in my world.”
Wolfram snorted. “I should've expected that of humans. Mazoku could think of much better ways of expressing their love.”
Yuuri hastily acquiesced, hoping to divert Wolfram from embarking on another bombastic tirade, but it seemed he was warming to the topic.
“Mazoku, of course, can use magic to woo their intended. I remember Mother saying she was particularly impressed by displays of Earth-Maryoku use,” he went on imperiously, not condescending to look at Yuuri.
The latter couldn't help his curiosity. “Really?”
“Well, I remember overhearing her say something about liking a man who made the earth move for her.”
Yuuri choked. He was glad Wolfram couldn't see him.
If Wolfram noticed, he didn't show it. “A man who can use magic – you know you'll be safe with him. You know he'll protect you.”
Yuuri suddenly noticed Wolfram wasn't using that arch, superior tone anymore. He moved closer, wanting to hear more.
“Willing to give his all for the one he loves. Using everything within his power. That's what love should be about.” Wolfram still hadn't turned to look at Yuuri.
It was so rare that the young king got to see this side of Wolfram; despite himself, he felt intrigued.
“And those feelings can't just be kept to one day! You should put your heart into everything you do for your loved one.”
Yuuri suddenly felt that much closer to understanding why Wolfram acted... well, the way he did. 'If only he...' “Wolfram...” he reached out a hand, hesitating just a moment before letting it drop onto Wolfram's shoulder.
His fiance turned his face towards him.
Yuuri smiled. “It's strange to hear you talk like this.”
Wolfram scowled, and blushed a little. “I do think about these things, you know!”
“Yeah, I know. You should do it more often! It's cute!” he added cheerfully.
Wolfram's blush deepened, and he turned his face away again haughtily. “Eh – I'm not surprised a wimp like you wouldn't understand such passionate emotions!” His words were not as heated as Yuuri might have expected, and Yuuri left his hand where it was.
“Maybe I don't. But I think I'd like to.”
