cranes for peace.

Yukan Club 2 hardsubbed! :O Man those guys are fast. :D I was wondering about dl'ing it raw, just cos I'm too eager to see that snippet of Yoko in the wedding dress, lol, but now I don't have to. Excellent!

Watched the new Burial ep subbed - it's shot-for-shot from the manga, and subs are preeeeetty much taken from Tokyopop's manga translation, but to be honest, I *like* Tokyopop's translation of Saiyuki (and clearly know sections of it word for word, lol), and the manga's so good, why fix what ain't broke? But wow, Saiyuki with, like, decent animation. o.O It'll be cool to see Banri animated next time. ^_^

This week's JaniBen was suitably off its nut. Japanese comedy really is like something from 1975, isn't it? And WHAT was Subaru wearing?! It's a question I should've learnt to stop asking, but it looked like something from the Hawkshead shop. XD

I keep looking at this pic and having a little smile. Bless them, it's a rare picture where Yasu looks like the *normal* one. XD Aww, lookit Mr & Mrs Murakami on their honeymoon. ♥ (Pic originally from that treasure trove, [livejournal.com profile] boku_nari_no.)

I'm... gonna go cough some more now. My diaphragm hurts! ^^'
diamondlife: (In the water - erendisblack)
It was Gaiden day yesterday, so you know what that means: *refreshrefreshrefreshrefresh*! @_@

Which leads me onto something I've been intending to do for a few days now.

Step One
- Make a post to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 5 (cos I only want the simple things in life ;) holiday wishes.

- If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two
-Surf around your friendslist (or friends friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true!

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call. There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

I want it all! )

Possibly more to be added when I think of them. It's hard to think of many squeeful things when you're at work. Especially certain types. ;)
diamondlife: (5 a day - dawn_icons2)
It rained. I went to the mall. They have a Waldenbooks. I bought Reload 5, which, I have to say, brightened my day considerably. It's a bit of a weak volume - I'm waiting for the big stuff that's coming up - but I have to say, it's easier to get into when you have the collected chapters, hard copy, in your hands. I don't think the chapters flow quite as well as they have done before, though - it feels like there are chunks missing, which is fair enough as of course we don't need continuous narration, but it feels a little choppy. Loved Goku's fanboying Gato, though, more than I remembered. And the sequence at the end with the kid. Sometimes I worry that Minekura forgot how to make a point purely through having the characters be themselves, as she of course so cleverly has done before; but Sanzo in that sequence demonstrates that she hasn't. (Or, at least, hadn't 18 months ago. ^^')

Also wrote a bit of my weird 39 reinc fic that's been kicking round my brain for a year or so. I should give my OTP more attention, ficwise, though they're the hardest *ever* OTP to write.(As opposed to hardest *pairing*, cos some of the random stuff PoT throws up must be much harder, in actual terms. XD)

Anyway. Then, fulfilled, I came back to the hostel and bumped into my new friend, who invited me to see a play about Anne Frank, so along we went. It as actually very good, but it was intense stuff for a Saturday night. So, as he said, we've done all the typical Arizona things - watched a play about the Holocaust, ate sushi... Looks like tomorrow's Sedona trip isn't going ahead, so will probably take the bus to Phoenix, just for the hell of it. Then the GC on Monday (*crosses fingers* I keep believing!!!), and I'll head on to Sedona on Tuesday, probably stay the night, then back through Flagstaff and straight on to SF, I reckon. I'm attempting to salvage what I can! *shakes fist at weather*
diamondlife: (Sailor Goku - stardustmajick)
A tiny thing in honour of Hakkai's birthday, as I clearly failed to write any more of that cursed fic, but thought I could share this again.

A while back I linked to this cute image of the Saiyuki boys. But when I showed it to [livejournal.com profile] vanillafire, I got extra value!

The card Hakkai is holding says "oshioki", which means punishment. Appropriate for Hakkai, yes. But down the side, where he's signed his name, he's written "tsuki ni kawatte [Cho Hakkai]". Helen pointed out to me that this is what Sailor Moon says, in Japanese, that when rendered into English becomes "In the name of the moon, I will punish you!"

So yes, whenever I think of Sailor Moon I do now automatically make the jump to Hakkai, and I don't even have to go down the dubious route of cutey moon rods and sailor uniforms. More's the pity.

Well, made me laugh anyway.
diamondlife: (Sky blue - farferello)
As if I didn't have enough reasons to love her, [livejournal.com profile] giving_ground wrote Sanzo & Goku drabble. It's lovely, so go and read it! :D

It's also come to my notice that it's Hakkai's birthday today! [livejournal.com profile] sw_book drew a couple of extremely cute pics. I better work on this thrice-damned fic, now I've straightened one or two things out in my head about it. Also, check out this series of Harry Potter-type Saiyuki drabbles by [livejournal.com profile] theemdash. Very clever, especially the one with Gonou. *grin*

I know I shouldn't like this Fedde le Grand song, but somehow it's irresistible. I also keep hearing Over and Over by Hot Chip, which I *hated* at first, but have come to love, in all its bonkers monkey-with-a-miniature-cymbal glory. Loving that Little Chris song (Checkin' it Out) too, for some reason, though again, it feels kind of wrong. More 16-year-olds. It's all just a terrible coincidence, I tells ya!

It feels like Friday today. This ain't good. -_-
diamondlife: (Waiting 500 years - farferello)
It's Gaiden day, so don't expect anything but gibbering from me for a while. *_* What is it about holding hands that always gets me?

I drank coffee for the first time in ages today, and it made my chest feel absolutely awful. :/ This is worrying. Though tea, coke and chocolate have no effect, so I don't know what it should be about the caffiene in coffee that makes me react. My chest felt a bit bad after the gig the other night too, what with the loudness and all. It's not unscary. o.o

[Edit] The usual methods led to the discovery of another very cute Saiyuki thing that I'd not seen before, so I thought I'd share. :)
diamondlife: (Sunflower - psycho_shoelace)
Bwahaha, cap of the month from ep 13 of Gakuen Heaven ep 13!

From Gakuen Heaven ep 13
From Gakuen Heaven ep 13

"Naruse-san! We can't elope, my boyfriend is watching!"

XD I was actually pretty proud of myself, I probably understood more than half of the dialogue in the ep even though it was raw. Which could say something about the scriptwriting, lol, but I most certainly wasn't disappointed with the ending - in fact, I almost exploded with squee. I was all doki-doki! But then, I'm a sap, so hey. ^_~

Also, my Reload 4 arrived at the Space Centre!! So I picked it up at lunchtime. *explodes again* Man, my admiration keeps increasing for the way Minekura so cleverly echoes themes throughout her work, and parallels situations in such a skillful way - that neat but very inventive way of drawing the characters together by coming back to ideas she originally raised volumes ago is masterful. Can't wait for Zero Sum, either - should be out this week, and last month's was something of a let-down after several breathtaking months. I think she put all her energy into Gaiden last month, lol, but hey, no-one's going to begrudge that, and in any case, she hasn't got that to worry about this time. :3

You know, having the hard copy really does make a difference... I enjoy Tokyopop's adaptation, for a start, but I'd never 'got' that line Gyokumen Koushu has about the revival before. *lightbulb* Yes I'm slow, but it brought things together in my mind! I was thinking recently about the last sutra, actually - there's one Sanzo we don't know anything about, still, isn't there? I think maybe if she was going to mention it, she would have fitted it in just after the desert arc - its time is probably past now, but that's kind of a shame.

...I could go on more, but it's probably a) old hat and b) boring. ^^' I'm also shy of these intelligent fandoms! #^^#

This song is so lovely. Who can fail to be moved by Date's adorable tears? ♥
diamondlife: (I need you - psychodragon82)
Several hundred years ago, I did the drabble meme! Well, [livejournal.com profile] miyukis_4 gave me Sanzo, Goku and the prompt of Internalise, and I've been working on it for, like, weeks. Far longer than it should've taken! I'm happy enough with it to post it here for now, but there's probably bits that I could work on. (It'd be nice to get the extra 32 words, make it an even 500, so if you have any suggestions for bits that you'd like to see expanded on a little have at it!)

Completely worksafe. Comments are the opium of the writer!

Internalise )

I hate to leave fic bare like that, but my brain isn't capable of thinking of anything else to add right now. ^^'
diamondlife: (Kane ga nai - ssjbento)
OK, so maybe not quite midnight, and maybe not quite edited, but I finished it, and that's what counts!

After extensive tinkering and revision (though probably nowhere near extensive enough...) I present a Sanzo/Goku drabble for [livejournal.com profile] guiltyschu's prompt of cutlery. No warnings - aside from the fact that it's written by me so probably sucks, it's perfectly harmless and innoffensive. Kind of a shame, innit.

That ain't no drabble, it's 700 words! ^^;; )

While I've been writing this I've been completely plagued by the return of my first proper 39 plotbunny. I'm actually really enamoured of the idea, and I reckon I can have a decent bash at it if I try, so it's just finding the time and brainpower, now... That and getting Sanzo-muse reconciled to the idea of being a girl. *cough* I'm really selling this well, aren't I...
diamondlife: (Friends - gnicons)
Urgh. In less angst-filled news, have some recs!

[livejournal.com profile] kwycksylver wrote me a Saiyuki drabble. I asked for something cute with Jeep and fire-breathing, and she fulfilled my request beautifully! ♥

I was also browsing [livejournal.com profile] peroxide_fic, and have come across lots of marvellous ES21 drabbles, including these. Check out the bottom one, with Jyuumonji, Hiruma and the concept of a natural blonde. XD XD XD (Loads of Jyuumonji-centric bits, which suits me just fine! :D)
diamondlife: (Mask - gnicons)
Well yes, I did get home from my first *full* week's work feeling drop-dead tired; I then progressed to out-and-out crap, but seeing the new Reload chapter soon put me right!! ARGH PERVING OVER NEARLY-NAKED GOKU FEELS SO WRONG BUT I ACTUALLY COULDN'T STOP MYSELF I was also proud of deciphering quite a few lines (the meaning, if not the *words*) even before reading what the Peeps had to say. ^_~ I was very pleased with the chapter, but then, it was largely NEARLY NAKED Goku-centric, so I was always going to be especially happy. :3 Something [livejournal.com profile] zalia said last night got me thinking about pre-Heaven, pre-Gaiden Goku - and, in particular, Seiten Taisei. Was he always destructive? Presumably there was a time when he didn't have a limiter, and I wonder if, before his power was limited, Seiten Taisei was just the Monkey King - powerful, tricksy, but ultimately broadly within the "good" spectrum. Perhaps it was being limited that made him go berserk? *shrug* I don't often see much Goku-related meta, so I don't know if this is all old hat, but I find him the most interesting character in the series, and not just because he's my favourite - more the other way round; he became my favourite when I realised how interesting he is.

I've got to re-read Monkey. :)

Um. This post has taken me, like, an hour - my brain's too melty to think of anything else to say. ^^' I owe lots of LJ replies, so, er, if you get random disjointed comments from me over the weekend, please bear with me! ^^' (Also will make an effort to make progress on the Avenue Q thing. :D)
diamondlife: (Shiny! - ushitora_icons)
*flail flail flail* New Reload chapter! Stage show!! Reload Burial OVA!!! *spazzing wildly* I can't wait to see the new chapter! @_@ And the promise of seeing Burial animated... words can't describe the anticipation! *salivates* *flails some more* *swoons*

[Edit] Even better, it seems that Naoyan is going to be in the stage play!!!
diamondlife: (Bedtime z_z - ssjbento)
Woah, my Saiyuki essay was getting out of hand. I didn't know what I was talking about anymore, so I decided instead to bypass the obvious things like art and slashiness, and instead detail a few of my favourite moments. :)

Spoilers ahoy! But good, tantalising ones. ;) )

And, er, now I'm going to stop. ^_~ Needless to say, there's, ah, quite a lot more I could've gone through - Sanzo shooting the shikigami Goku; Goku's fear of the snow and Gojyo enticing him out into it; and I've not even *touched* Gaiden! o.o But I think there's enough there to be going on with! (Well over 1000 words now! XD) I hope it's of interest to people who are already fans, and, although I might've assumed a certain knowledge already, I hope maybe it's inspired someone to maybe grab my dl's and see what all the fuss is about! :D

Speaking of which, here's a couple more volumes! ^_^

Volume 4
Volume 5

And, because I already have them uploaded, some pics:

Gojyo on the cover of Salty Dog III
Heart-squeezing pic of Konzen and Goku from Gaiden chapter 20
Gojyo insults Hakkai's masculinity (or something) in volume 4...
Smart pics of Gojyo and Hakkai
Couch picture! (I love how Goku is linking arms with Sanzo. [/rabid fangirl] ...Wait, what am I saying? There *is* no / to the rabid fangirling here! ^^')
...Hell, just look at my gallery. :D

Argh, and as my fingers are tired from all the html-ing, here I shall give it up for now and fall over. I think I'm getting a disease - my throat hurts and my back hurts too, which isn't a good sign. >.<;; Could be pre-menstrual (it has been known) or I could finally be succumbing to the lurgi. Aiee!
diamondlife: (5 a day - dawn_icons2)
This afternoon, Irwin Industrial Tools was quiet. I found myself just staring out of the window, because it was such a beautiful day, so spring-like, and I just felt so utterly peaceful. I was genuinely happy, even though I was just sitting, looking, doing nothing, and it was work that helped me get there. I'm not an ambitious person; I don't want a hectic job with lots of pressure. Right now, I just want something where I can be left to my own devices, with specific things to do. If I'm by myself, I don't have to think about how other people might be better than me; I don't have to think about living up to anything, or putting all that effort in, because people, let's face it, require effort. Right now, I'm enjoying being quiet, solitary; peaceful. Just watching. It's beautiful. ♥

Last night I also thought of a much better (ie, actual) ending for my (current) school reinc fic. Hope it's not too hoary and cliched. I also thought of an idea for a third school reinc story, because these things work so much better in threes; this will complete The Fine Art of Fooling Around.

Continuing International Saiyuki Week, I bring you uploads of the first three volumes of Gensoumaden Saiyuki!

Volume 1
Volume 2
Volume 3

I was hooked from volume 1 - it's funny, because I was struck by how good the art was, but it's a testament to Minekura's development and dedication that now, when I go back to look at the early volumes, I think how strange and (comparatively) unattractive they are when placed against the new chapters. (Though I do think she peaked roundabout Burial time; everyone's profiles look a bit... odd since about volume 5!) If all my haranguing hasn't worked yet, I'll implore you once more to download these volumes and let it get its claws into you. ^_~ I'll be uploading more imminently, and will prepare more detailed ramblings for further persuasion. O:)
diamondlife: (Default)
Quote of the day: "In Soviet Russia, LiveJournal cut you!" (from a random LJ I happened across).

Random things I keep remembering from the weekend:

- watching the last 4 eps of Gluhen and ENJOYING it O.O
- Niou and his ice cream van XD XD XD (that still makes me laugh out loud when I think about it XD)
- everyone re: Papa to Kiss in the Dark: "It's so wrong... but can I copy it?" >:D

The first day of my new three-day job went well! I had a lovely lady with me all day, but tomorrow and Thursday I'll be covering for her, so I'll be ALL ALONE and confused. ;_; I can't get a decent cup of tea, which is frustrating, but the machine stuff is drinkable and only 10p, so it'll do. At least I only really have to answer the phone, so I can take a book. I've started Neil Gaiman's American Gods, and am greatly enjoying it so far! Though "so far" is only up to about page 40.

Did you know it's International Saiyuki week? I don't know when it started exactly, but I've changed my default icon to a delicious picture of Sanzo in celebration, and here's some links to manga I uploaded a while back:

Gaiden chapters 9-18 [missing chapter 15b... I think... ^^']
Gaiden 19
Gaiden 20

You all know how capable I am of rambling about Saiyuki, but I'll actually do a proper post (maybe tomorrow) with scans and explanation and discussion of some of my favourite moments. ^_^

Man, I'm tired - think I got a maximum of 6 hours of sleep, and I've had a stomach ache off and on all day. :/ This isn't anything especially new, but it's been oddly persistant. Oh well, probably just the terror! Which is made all the worse cos I ate chicken earlier (I just felt like some, so I bought a chicken quarter from Waitrose [only 95p!] and, er, ate it before tea *cough*) and chicken always gives me the fear. o.o

... end ramble. Time for a proper cuppa!
diamondlife: (Kane ga nai - ssjbento)
Never seen this before... Seems it's the KoZero Sum from December 2004, though I'm not entirely sure what KoZero Sum is. And why did it have to be scanlated into Chinese? -_- If it was raw, I'd at least be able to make out *some* of the words! (I find this vaguely cheering, in terms of my Japanese skillz.) As it is, the only bits I can make out are names. -_- Still, very interesting (and that waiter's outfit really suits Kougaiji. He can peel my potatoes any time! ;9), and the site seems like a pretty nice find. Got to explore it more for other hidden goodies!

BTW, for those of you who were wondering about Monkey when I mentioned it yesterday, I found the intro over at YouTube. (Hope that link works - I have bad luck with YouTube! ^^')

Gotta say, I'm loving this icon. *snerk* Can't wait for my Reload 3 to get here! @_@
diamondlife: (Fly - stardustmajick)
As I cannot seem to keyboard mash effectively, just take my word for my foaming at the mouth, and go look at (half of) the new Saiyuki chapter over at [livejournal.com profile] radiofreebanri. *_* Short, but spoilery ) *bouncebouncebounce* Man, can't wait to see the rest of the chapter. *swoon* :D
diamondlife: (Delicious! - _graphicx)
I was *this* close to cancelling my careers appointment this morning, but I dragged myself out of bed (somehow realising it was at 10.30, not 10, made all the difference) and have been able to make the most of a nice lazy afternoon! ^^;; I seem to have been really busy recently, so I'm just having a nice quiet day. (The fact that it's sunny outside is making me feel guilty, though. ^^;; It is still pretty damn cold, though, so I'll wait till it warms up before getting any more vitamin D, thanks. *rickets*)

I randomly uploaded some music, too, so if anyone wants it - I know there are those out there who like to grab random new songs - help yourself! :)

First, The Crimea - White Russian Galaxy. Brand new song from a pretty new band - their previous song was called Lottery Winners on Acid, and it was OK, but nothing especially inspiring; this one is similar, but I really love the piano in it. Plus, White Russians are one of my favourite cocktails, so it's a delicious reminder. :9

Next, as we were talking about them last night, Talking Heads - Psycho Killer. [livejournal.com profile] vanillafire mentioned a dj pic with Fuji wearing a Talking Heads t-shirt, and I can imagine Fuji liking the Talking Heads, actually! I don't really know that many of their songs (the ones I do know kind of... meld together in my mind ^^;;), but this one's awesome.

Finally, this one's for [livejournal.com profile] vanillafire too! The Powerpuff Girls - Love Makes the World Go Round. :D Nostalgia! (For, oh, about 5 years ago. When I was 19. XD Good times!)

Finally, I love when my fandoms explode, in the good way. ^_~ Last week it was KKM everyone was talking about, with the last ep - it's funny, I've been watching it for 2 years now, so my squee levels have dulled slightly over time. After yesterday, though, it's back to Saiyuki. Everywhere you look you see Youkai Hakkai! I certainly ain't complaining. :9 I love seeing people enthusiastic about my fandoms! Means more fics for me to stalk! *cough*

I'm drinking fizzy French stuff, even though it's only half past 4! Dave wants it finished so he can properly start his no-meat, no-alcohol, no-chocolate, no-nuffink diet. *slurp* I apologise in advance for any spam this may cause! >:D

[Edit] What I said about 'the good way'... how come that always leads to the bad way? Ugh. [/pessimistic]
diamondlife: (I need you - psychodragon82)
Newflash! New Gaiden scans over at [livejournal.com profile] radiofreebanri. It's gonna be a long three months till the next chapter... x_o

Also, can I ask a dumb question about [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_challenge? Can anyone claim a request, even if you've not made one yourself? Cos I've seen one I'm really very interested in writing, but I don't necessarily have anything I want to suggest. Unless I submit one of my [livejournal.com profile] top_cagnotte requests! ^^'

[Promised edit] Found this anime friending meme through [livejournal.com profile] hyujin. Go on, make a new friend! :D My little ad-thingy is here. ^_^
diamondlife: (Waiting 500 years - farferello)
FIRST FORAY INTO SAIYUKI WRITING HERE! It had to happen sometime. I'm quite happy with most of them, actually, but I'm now unable to tell whether they're in the right order etc because I've messed with them so many times and had a glass of wine. I would value any feedback incredibly! Then I'll get to work on the three other ideas I have for the fandom. ^^'

Fandom: Saiyuki
Pairing: Genjo Sanzo/Son Goku
Theme set: Gamma
Rating: PG
Notes/warnings: These are set in chronological order, and some of them are in interconnected sets. References to events in Goku's Burial arc. For #7 I am indebted to this thread at [livejournal.com profile] saiyuki; my source for #14 is this drama track translation. Thanks also to [livejournal.com profile] vanillafire for betaing!
