diamondlife: (Afro. - sukebecons)
Happy Friday! I finished my book review (I only realised after I'd sent it that I hadn't even read it through, haha), and so I am zen. :3 I also went for a massage that I'd forgotten I'd booked, and I had to go otherwise there would've been a cancellation charge. >.<' But I think I needed it - the girl described my shoulder muscles as "crunchy", which isn't good! I could feel it too. I'm gonna hurt tomorrow, I think! It was at the gym, though I didn't even have time to do any exercise cos I had to rush back and send off my review, haha. But I'll try and go tomorrow or Sunday. Then I've got to start on my dissertation proposal. Which, I'm realising, I don't really know how to start. ^^;; But that is for NEXT WEEK. And after that... oh, there'll be genuine free time, at least for a while. :D I'll get so much done, now I can stop procrastinating! XD

Also, have a present:

Dan le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip - The Beat That My Heart Skipped. Seriously this is one of the best tracks I've ever heard in my life. I love the lyrics, I love the message, I love the beat, I love the bass, I love the music box bit at the end. And it's a live version - I don't know how he does it! All the songs I've heard by Sac & Pip have been A+++++ and I wish they'd release an actual album so I could have them all. (They're the guys who did Thou Shalt Always Kill, which is another genius piece of work.)

Ahh, I love that they have so many flaming gay guests on Janiben. :D It's especially hilarious cos Yoko and Hina are just like normal, yeah whatever, and Ryo just didn't know what to do with himself, being hit on by this guy, hahaha! That said he doesn't know what too do when it's a female guest either, bless him. XD I hope someone subs this one eventually! Seemed like a riot!
diamondlife: (Cherish - opiumgaze)
Just - just download this song. It's nothing scary! It's Intervention, by Arcade Fire. It's like, the only song I like by them, but it's so amazing it stops me in my tracks every time I hear it. It has a mighty organ~! Heh, I've heard a few tracks recently from back in the day, when we used to go to Fuzz, and I was all like "Oh, they don't make 'em like Hotel Yorba or Bandages anymore!" but then I realise, it was partly the fact of going to Fuzz that made them classics at the time anyway. I didn't even listen to the radio much at the time, so I heard the songs there first. I wanna go again~! I'll be able to next year! I'm looking forward to reliving my un-misspent youth. Hey, let's go before term ends! Or I'll go by myself, and that's just tragic! XD

On a far less musically credible note, I preordered K8's new album earlier. #^^# Thing is, CDJapan has the release date as 6/7/07, not 6/6/07. Which is probably when I'll be in Japan anyway. ^^' YesAsia doesn't have it at all yet, but we'll see how the situation changes... Can always cancel, I assume. My only thought was "MUST HAVE DVD *foam foam*" so I clicked Order before I even thought about it.

Wonder if there'll be any con reports any time soon? Huh, we're not spoiled like NewS and KAT-TUN fans. XD We get a set list and we're happy with that! ...And I totally wasn't checking out Yahoo ticket auctions earlier and contemplating begging certain friends currently resident in Japan to bid for me. Noooo, not me! *slinks away*
diamondlife: (Escaped from the asylum - ignited)
This is the most awesome song I've heard in a long time, though [livejournal.com profile] davechan disagrees, inevitably. XD

Dan le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip - Though Shalt Always Kill

I mean, come on! With a title and artist like that, how can it *not* be made of awesome?!
"Thou shalt not think that any male over the age of 30 that plays with a child that is not their own is a paedophile - some people are just nice...
Thou shalt not question Stephen Fry...
Thou shalt spell the word “Pheonix” P-H-E-O-N-I-X not P-H-O-E-N-I-X, regardless of what the Oxford English Dictionary tells you."

Frickin' A. ♥ Angles is almost even better, cos it tells more of a story, but I've not found an mp3 of that, though you can hear it at his MySpace.

I'm also distressed to find myself liking this My Chemical Romance song. o.o Well, we all knew I got emo, I guess it was inevitable! ^^;;

Speaking of emo, was worried to find myself in a state of semi-panic in M&S earlier because I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to get for tea. Deciding this was not an appropriate reaction, I told myself to get a bloody grip, for heaven's sake, and it mainly worked, though I'm mainly worried because I was so worried. Hmm. I even made myself an appointment at the doctor's about that pain in my ribs, but it's gone away now. Oh well.

Oh, and when I looked at the uni website about getting a replacement degree today, I realised that what I actually need is a transcript of my marks, which I would have to pay for anyway, so that makes me feel better. And I rang up and clarified that yes, I do still exist on the university's records, so yes, they can give me said transcript. Phew! So now I've stuck my application and the reference I got back in an envelope, and if I send it tomorrow that'll be a huge step! I hereby promise I'm going to try my best at this course, provided I get on it. Really. I really want to work hard. Please let me be able to. XD
diamondlife: (Doggie-style - saihara)
What was my life like before it consisted solely of sticking things onto other things? Someone remind me. That's all I've done for 4 days. @_@ All our computers were being redone, and now they're back, but with school settings, so you can't do anything. The resolution on my monitor is doing my head in! But this post is mainly a celebration of having the interwebs back at work. Talk to me? Though I can't talk back, but hey, that's the best way all round, isn't it? XD

I want to write Subaru/Yasu but I don't have the nerve. I've also been working on a K8 pimp post for 3 days. By the time I finish it the Sendspace links will have expired.

This is an awesome song. Must get The View's album too. And not that anyone will know what the heck I'm on about, but can I say how much I despise Jamie T? I hate his voice, I hate his lyrics, I hate his music, I hate his style, and I hate how everyone seems to love him. >E [Edit, 2 minutes later] Haha, his awful song has come on the radio now! Thanks, world! x_o

I was going to say something Deep and Thought-provoking, but... nah. Why break the habit of a lifetime. XD
diamondlife: (Sky blue - farferello)
As if I didn't have enough reasons to love her, [livejournal.com profile] giving_ground wrote Sanzo & Goku drabble. It's lovely, so go and read it! :D

It's also come to my notice that it's Hakkai's birthday today! [livejournal.com profile] sw_book drew a couple of extremely cute pics. I better work on this thrice-damned fic, now I've straightened one or two things out in my head about it. Also, check out this series of Harry Potter-type Saiyuki drabbles by [livejournal.com profile] theemdash. Very clever, especially the one with Gonou. *grin*

I know I shouldn't like this Fedde le Grand song, but somehow it's irresistible. I also keep hearing Over and Over by Hot Chip, which I *hated* at first, but have come to love, in all its bonkers monkey-with-a-miniature-cymbal glory. Loving that Little Chris song (Checkin' it Out) too, for some reason, though again, it feels kind of wrong. More 16-year-olds. It's all just a terrible coincidence, I tells ya!

It feels like Friday today. This ain't good. -_-
diamondlife: (Delicious! - _graphicx)
I was *this* close to cancelling my careers appointment this morning, but I dragged myself out of bed (somehow realising it was at 10.30, not 10, made all the difference) and have been able to make the most of a nice lazy afternoon! ^^;; I seem to have been really busy recently, so I'm just having a nice quiet day. (The fact that it's sunny outside is making me feel guilty, though. ^^;; It is still pretty damn cold, though, so I'll wait till it warms up before getting any more vitamin D, thanks. *rickets*)

I randomly uploaded some music, too, so if anyone wants it - I know there are those out there who like to grab random new songs - help yourself! :)

First, The Crimea - White Russian Galaxy. Brand new song from a pretty new band - their previous song was called Lottery Winners on Acid, and it was OK, but nothing especially inspiring; this one is similar, but I really love the piano in it. Plus, White Russians are one of my favourite cocktails, so it's a delicious reminder. :9

Next, as we were talking about them last night, Talking Heads - Psycho Killer. [livejournal.com profile] vanillafire mentioned a dj pic with Fuji wearing a Talking Heads t-shirt, and I can imagine Fuji liking the Talking Heads, actually! I don't really know that many of their songs (the ones I do know kind of... meld together in my mind ^^;;), but this one's awesome.

Finally, this one's for [livejournal.com profile] vanillafire too! The Powerpuff Girls - Love Makes the World Go Round. :D Nostalgia! (For, oh, about 5 years ago. When I was 19. XD Good times!)

Finally, I love when my fandoms explode, in the good way. ^_~ Last week it was KKM everyone was talking about, with the last ep - it's funny, I've been watching it for 2 years now, so my squee levels have dulled slightly over time. After yesterday, though, it's back to Saiyuki. Everywhere you look you see Youkai Hakkai! I certainly ain't complaining. :9 I love seeing people enthusiastic about my fandoms! Means more fics for me to stalk! *cough*

I'm drinking fizzy French stuff, even though it's only half past 4! Dave wants it finished so he can properly start his no-meat, no-alcohol, no-chocolate, no-nuffink diet. *slurp* I apologise in advance for any spam this may cause! >:D

[Edit] What I said about 'the good way'... how come that always leads to the bad way? Ugh. [/pessimistic]
diamondlife: (Shake it - takamatsu)
OK, so I bit. It's that Great Write meme thing, where you comment anonymously and critique authors' writing. Hop on over and let me know what you *really* think of my writing. I wasn't going to do it, but then I realised it wasn't just intended for all the nasty things you could never say to my face! (I replied to a few people's, so I hope you can't tell which are mine! XD)

Also, note to self: listen to Zane Lowe more often! You love being both excited and infuriated within the space of ten minutes! I discover the best tracks by chance - tonight's random find was called Creeping up the Backstairs, by a Glasgow band called The Fratellis - must remember to look out for them at Fuzz and the like. (Also, I heard a track by Panic at the Disco, and was predictably unimpressed, despite their awesome name. *goes off to dl Panic by The Smiths*) Man, it'd've been so much cooler working at Virgin if I'd been as big a music geek as I was 8 or 9 years ago! >_o
diamondlife: (Sailor Goku - stardustmajick)
Have another song, folks! Go on, you know you want to. This one's like a combination of Electric 6 and Basement Jaxx, and contains a tuba solo. How cool is that?! Download it if you like crazy funky music that makes you want to point at things and shout. (That's what it does to me, anyway.) Braund Reynolds - Rocket (Natural Gambler)

Have some tentacles. Yes, I finally got round to reading [livejournal.com profile] ciceqi's Saiyuki/Lovecraft fusion-thingy. It's sanity-losin' good!

Was so, so cold at work today. I think I have chilblains on my hands now. x_o Only three more days to go! I'm a little sad, but part of me thinks it'll be nice to have a break. ^^' Man, I'm such a workshy slacker. And I say that with pride!

Oh, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] noaizumi - your card arrived today! :D Thank you!

I want 2006 to be the year I do and see all those things and places I really want to. Now all I need to do is think of what those things are... ^^'

diamondlife: (Why do these things always happen to me?)
OK, inspired by [livejournal.com profile] sublimeparadigm, I decided to do some music uploads for you all - oh, I can hear your thrilled "yay!"s from here! I was going to say this was "in the spirit of the season", but it feels like Christmas is long gone - largely to do with my work schedule this year, but Christmas has been a bit of a damp squib. Nothing terrible happened, but yesterday was just so boring I found myself getting so incredibly annoyed over little tiny things. The food, though, was excellent, it has to be said. :9 And I've got a couple of boxes of very fine chocolates - the sort that you know you should eat at the rate of one a day, to make them last, but you just can't. >.<;;

I've also got presents still to come from mother, so that's another reason why Christmas doesn't really feel like Christmas this year. Hn! Ah well, I have two days off work now, so maybe I'll get a chance to go sale shopping and relax a bit. ^^' Including posting all those cards and things I still need to do. *cough**shuffle*

...OK, so that was a long tangent. Onto the music, finally! (Why the heck has MegaUpload gone all Japanese on us? And why doesn't Firefox have a "Copy shortcut" function in its right click menu?! *kicks it* I ain't seeing the appeal so much, y'know... *ahem*)

Anyone ever wanted to hear Ishida Akira sing? He doesn't do that anymore, so I was ages trying to find a song of his, and I finally came up with this, from Slayers: But But But. It's actually quite a nice song but it'd be even better if a better singer did it. *hides* Am happy to have it in my collection, though!

Secondly, allow me to point out that I don't like Green Day especially - I don't care for their whole operation. It's a bit too grungy and muddy and American for me. However, I've been hearing When I Come Around at work quite a bit recently, and I actually really like it. It has that quality that I love in a song, that I'm going to have to find a word for - I think "evocative" is kind of it, but also "nostalgic" in a weird way. I dunno, it's a quality that, if I hear it in a song, tends to make me like the song, but I can't quite pin it down.

I've also never understood how people can actually buy and listen to Christmas music in their own homes. Come to that, I've never met anyone who doesn't hate Christmas music with a burning passion (well, except one, but you don't count, dear ;). So this is the most Christmassy song I have on my computer: Aozu - happy x2 Day!!

And this is the second most: The Vandals - Oi to the World. Oh, reminds me of John Peel, God rest his soul.

Finally, an oldie. Abba are a band I always forget how much I like, but Madonna's recent sampling of Gimme Gimme Gimme reminded me to dl some of their stuff. So I did, and found this hidden gem: King Kong Song. ^^' I really can't say anything about anyone else's taste in music, because I love novelty songs - I have copies of the Sunscreen Song, Chef from South Park's song, songs by the Goons and Laurel & Hardy; I love Maxwell's Silver Hammer and Rocky Raccoon by the Beatles, and all that other stuff people dimiss as worthless claptrap. I get great enjoyment from songs like that, usually cos they're actually, like, fun and enjoyable, rather than spending time being all "musical" and crap like that. XD So anyway, download it out of, uh, anticipation for the film, or something. ^^;;

Hope you enjoy! Let me know what you think, if you dl any! ;D
diamondlife: (V-I-C-T-O-R-Y! - bucket_shot)
Finally got round to, er, acquiring Rufus Wainwright's Want Two. Want One was a bit disappointing - it was OK, and the good tracks were really, really good, but that only counted for about a quarter of the total number of tracks, so maybe not my favourite album ever, overall. I've only listened to tweo tracks of Want Two so far, but both have been excellent, so maybe this one will have a higher success rate. I can't wait any longer - gotta listen to Gay Messiah. XD

...How come the songs with the best titles are always such a huge disappointment? -_-

Aaaanyway. I was too dead last night to properly squee over the parcel that arrived me yesterday - thank you so much, [livejournal.com profile] alsie! :D :D :D I love trying sweets from overseas, it's always so exciting! And I shall treasure the other gifts. XD Thank you so very much! ♥♥♥

Oh, why is it always so much more fun playing anonymous characters thank your own? ^^;;
diamondlife: (No regrets - sporflefruit)
For [livejournal.com profile] r_chan! And anyone else who wants it - You Won't See me Coming, by Jean-Jacques Burnel (Gankutsuou ED, full-length). Top quality song! ^_^

Um. Was there something else? Oh, yes - for [livejournal.com profile] zalia, if you're interested, Sapphire Fusion has translations of Reload from chapter 14 onwards, and also the Burial backstory arcs. (I reckon chapter 14 will be about volume 4, but the Burial arc are all "Chapter xx" so I guess count towards the total too. There's probably at least a couple of extra volumes of material there, but it's all awesome stuff! Better than the Hazel arc, I reckon, but the ending of that made me gasp with anticipation, so it's all cool.)

Heard this song (*points to current music*) for the first time on Thursday, when I went to Fuzz Club for the first time in yonks with [livejournal.com profile] avareece and really had a very wonderful time! ^_^ If I'd been around in the 80s, I might even have liked the Talking Heads, though of course I'm far too young to remember them. *cough* And they also always make me think of slightly twisted TakaFuji now too. *grin*

Man, I'm tired. *yawns cutely, a la guinea pig*
diamondlife: (Chance - cyberhell)
Argh, what game is it that has the pirate Fudoumine scenario?! I know there's Yamabuki doing the story of Monkey, and Rikkai are supernatural-stype things like vampires, and I seem to recall Shinsengumi Seigaku as well, but I cannot remember where I've seen them! I was sure I had them in my memories but I can't find them all. >.<;; Any help would be *much* appreciated! ^_~ RP people, you already know I have the Fudoumine one. *grin*

Also spent this morning (well... ^^') reading The City, by [livejournal.com profile] yuki_scorpio. Fantastic detective-type story - kind of reminiscent of Infernal Affairs in a way, though it's more about hitmen and the police. Lots of very intricate details, and it actually makes me feel sorry for Sanada. ;_; Pairings include SanaYuki, D1, YanaYuki, but the story isn't finished yet; it's genuinely exciting, so go read it! :D

Have also spent all day (like, literally @_@) listening to Cannabis, by Serge Gainsbourg! It's sampled by Goldie Lookin' Chain in their new single, Your Missus is a Nutter. It's top class work as ever from the GLC, but I was intrigued by the sample, so I looked it up, found the track and man, it's just jaw-droppingly awesome. It's from the soundtrack of a film, and somehow it's so very evocative, in a happy, glam-rock styled way. Download it! Download it now!
diamondlife: (Apples - c_chan)
Heheh, all this Saiyuki reading made me think "Hey, it's been a while since they released any Patalliro Saiyuki!" So I went and checked, and lo and behold, eps 4 and 5 were released today. *grin* Ahh, Banko-sama and his porn music! *snork*

Finished up to volume 9 now of the actual Saiyuki now, anyway, so I think icons are in order. 0:)

[Edit] Franz Ferdinand's new song is somehow so very gay. ^^'
diamondlife: (Crazy! - ignited)
Just by chance yesterday, I was in Virgin and heard this song. Now, I don't like dance/trance/club music. If you say "Ibiza" or "Gatecrasher" to me I tend to run screaming. On the other hand, I do like quite a lot of leftfield electronica - Aphex Twin, LFO, Boards of Canada - mainly stuff from a few years back, but I really enjoy it. So I heard this song, and, even though it was from an Ibiza compliation, somehow, against the odds, I loved it. To be fair, the lyrics more than struck a chord - they describe my entire state of mind perfectly, lol.

...I'm worried about my waning attention span,
I worry that I forget things,
I worry that I knock stuff over...
I worry about the dull pain in my head,
About all the stupid things I've said...
I worry that I never laugh at jokes...
I worry that I used to think I was pregnant before I even had sex...

Different Gear - Worry

[livejournal.com profile] davechan will kill me if he ever hears the song. XD

Congratulations too to those who graduated today! *grin* And I didn't even get to see [livejournal.com profile] ninjaiguana in a gown. Shame... ;)
diamondlife: (Gunter - freelikebird)
Why the buggery won't this CD open with WMP? O.o;; And when did I start thinking of iTunes as being evil? ^^' I think it's just the Fear that someone will somewhere receive notification of the ripped files on my computer, and come batter down my door. Not that that couldn't happen even more easily with WMP, being as how it's, well, Windows.

Have felt pretty ugh all day. Haven't been able to muster will to do anything. My throat has been killing me for a few days now, inexplicably; thought I just needed to drink more water/get some vitamin C, but the former hasn't helped and the latter causes my throat to feel like it's on fire. I don't feel like I have a *sore* throat, though, if you see what I mean - it just hurts, like it's too tight. Not good. I did, however, catch the very end of T in the Park on BBC3 and saw a few tracks by the Prodigy. Man, I was impressed - it was just what I was in the mood for, some great angry scary electronica. Breathe was one of my dad's favourite songs, haha. Leeroy looked fantastic - black shirt and trousers and tie, with a gold tie pin. And white make-up all across his eyes. He and Keith had a few great dancing moments - it must be brilliant to see a guy like Keith on-stage, he puts so much into it, and he *means* it. I love that. (Caught a bit of Interpol too, but they make me want to throw things, and Ian Brown, who makes me want to... visit the zoo. -_-)

Immediately after, Strictly Ballroom was on, which is a fantastic film! Suffers slightly in respect of its dubiously 80s soundtrack, but still awesome. I never expected it to be, but I saw it quite a few years ago and was surprised to be as impressed as I was.

Cut for maybe TMI (I know I have a delicate audience) )

I'm sorry, [livejournal.com profile] robojellyfish - I'm still working on the fic. My state of mind today has not been conducive to, well, anything today.

List five songs you absolutely can't stand from five artists you adore. Then, tag five people to see what songs they hate from the artists they love.

I had to go back in time to do this one, lol, cos I've not been into "bands" per se for years now. I used to be very much, though, so I was able to have a good go! ^_~

1. The Beatles - Yesterday. There's probably another song of theirs I dislike more, but Yesterday is just incredibly, incredibly dull, and irritatingly overrated. I think I once heard it's the most-played song on radio ever, or something, and it really doesn't deserve to be. z_z

2. David Devant & His Spirit Wife - Sex Maniacs. With a title like that, I was expecting so much! But it's a very boring, slow song, with not much going for it at all. It doesn't fill me with rage, but it's so disappointing.

3. Manic Street Preachers - Mausoleum. I know this isn't meant to be an easy song to listen to, but I've always found it moribund and musically bereft, too. It's just unpleasant, to me.

4. The Monkees - That Was Then, This is Now. Bands who have broken up should never, ever reform to produce new songs. Ever. Enough said. x_x

5. Jimi Hendrix - If 6 was 9. Too... wibbly. XD That's my main complaint about a lot of jazz, is when it wibbles too much, and Hendrix suffered from excessive wibbling too, at times. I much prefer a melody, and/or harmonies; I tend to prefer tight music, y'know? (Bold as Love, on the other hand, is my favourite Hendrix track and one of my favourite songs ever. Man, this brings back memories! ^^')

Not tagging cos it always feels like favouritism. ^^' Do it if you wanna! ^_~
